How are sentences and paragraphs counted?

Sentences are runs of text ending in a period, exclamation mark or question mark (consecutive terminators count once). Paragraphs are blocks separated by one or more blank lines.

How accurate are the character count and the time estimates?

Characters are counted by Unicode code point so emoji count as one, not two. Reading time assumes 200 words per minute and speaking time 130 words per minute — the widely used averages, useful as estimates rather than exact figures.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No — all counting and estimation happens locally in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
