What is a Swiss AHV number?

The AHV (Alters- und Hinterlassenenversicherung), called AVS in French and Italian, is the Swiss social-security number. Since 2008 it has 13 digits beginning with 756 (the ISO country code for Switzerland), written 756.NNNN.NNNN.NC.

How is the AHV check digit calculated?

The final digit is an EAN-13 check digit over the first 12 digits: weight the digits alternately by 1 and 3 from the left, sum them, and the check digit is (10 minus the total modulo 10) modulo 10.

Does the AHV number contain personal data?

No. Since 2008 the AHV number is randomly assigned and encodes no birth date or gender, so this tool only verifies the prefix and the check digit. Nothing is uploaded.
