How are the clue numbers worked out?

A white square is numbered if it begins an across word (its left edge is blocked and the square to its right is open) or a down word (its top edge is blocked and the square below is open). Numbering runs left to right, top to bottom.

What does 180-degree symmetry do?

When enabled, blocking one square also blocks the square diametrically opposite it. This matches the rotational symmetry convention used in most published crosswords.

Is my grid saved to a server?

No. The grid lives only in your browser while the page is open, and nothing is uploaded.
