Alcohol units calculator
Knowing how many units are in your drinks helps you stay within lower-risk guidelines. This calculator converts any drink into UK units and US standard drinks from its volume and ABV.
The core formula is simple: UK units = volume (ml) × ABV (%) ÷ 1000, because one unit is 10 ml of pure alcohol. A 568 ml pint at 4% is 2.3 units; a 175 ml glass of 13% wine is 2.3 units; a 25 ml single of 40% spirit is 1 unit.
UK Chief Medical Officers advise drinking no more than 14 units a week, spread over three or more days. Presets cover common beers, wines and spirits, and everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
